After setting a season-best score of 196.300 in their victory over the UC Davis Aggies (5-3, 3-1 MPSF) on Feb. 5, the Spartans (4-1, 3-0 MPSF) now sit at the top of the MPSF rankings.

With this victory tying a school fifth-best finishing score, SJSU sits as the only undefeated team in the MPSF following their third consecutive win.

The Aggies put up a battle bringing home a score of 195.450 and setting a new school record after scoring 49.525 on their floor routine, with Aggies sophomore Keanna Abraham setting two school records by receiving scores of 9.925 on the vault and 9.975 on her floor routine.

Spartans’ Senior Emma Milne has been on a roll of her own, collecting 2 more first-place victories with a final score of 9.850 on the bars and 9.875 on the beam, moving her season total up to 5 first-place finishes.

“We’re continuing to improve as a team and staff,” said Coach Joanne Bowers. “The thing we’re excited about the most is we have a high ceiling and have so much more we can improve on.”

Grad-student Ariana Castrence saw her first action of the year, scoring an impressive 9.825 on the beam where the Spartans outlasted the Aggies and helped them seal a 49.075-47.850 in the event.

Ultimately, the final score on the beam would provide enough distance to capture the win. As the Spartans continue with their season, they host MPSF rival Air Force on Friday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m.
