San Jose State volleyball (18-7, 12-3 MW) came out to play on Saturday afternoon beating Boise State (14-13, 6-10 MW) on the road, 3-1.

Whenever you’re in an opposing teams’ arena starting off strong is key. The blue-and-gold got off to a great start by going up 4-0 in the first set.

Three of the first four points came off of attack errors by Boise State. Junior setter Mia Schafer started the match perfect in serves.

The Broncos fought back in the first set and tied the score at 19.

SJSU volleyball pulled off the win in the first set, something it wasn’t able to do in its previous three games. The final point came off of a service ace by junior outside hitter Letizia Cammillucci.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair. It became deadlocked in a tie at 20-20. Eventually, Boise State got the upper hand and grabbed the set 25-22.

The third set went back in SJSU’s favor with redshirt sophomore outside hitter Blaire Fleming leading the way with six kills.

The Spartans went into the fourth set smelling blood in the water. It established a commanding 17-9 lead. They had no problem getting kills as five different players had double-figure kills including Cammillucci and Fleming.

The final kill was delivered by junior middle blocker Jiana Lawson to end the final set 25-15.

“I thought sets one and two could’ve gone either way. Sets three and four we were a lot cleaner on our side of the net, we played a much better game specifically in set four,” said SJSU volleyball head coach Trent Kersten.

SJSU volleyballs’ next game will be against rival Fresno State at home on Thursday at 6 p.m.
