SJSU women’s swimming and diving captures dominant win over University of the Pacific

San Jose State women’s swimming and diving (2-0, 0-0 MW) defeated the University of Pacific (3-3, 0-0 WCC) 144-80 on Friday afternoon at the Spartan Recreation and Aquatics Center in San Jose, Calif. 

Senior Felicity Passon broke a pool record, finishing her leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 50.68. Passon also won the 50-yard relay with a time of 24.69.

The Spartans won 14 of the first 16 events of the meet, gaining a big lead on the Tigers early. SJSU had multiple standout swimmers throughout the day.

Freshman Mya Azzopardi finished first in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyles. Azzopardi recorded a time of 1:52.95 in the 200 and 52.42 in the 100.

The 400-yard relay team consisting of swimmers Reagan Mathieson, Zsófia Muzsnay, Amelia Snyder and Passon took first place in the event.

Muzsnay also placed first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02:53. Sophomore Andreea Dragoi finished in second with a time of 2:05.58

SJSU was also dominant in the diving event. Freshman Jenna Jagielski finished first in the three-meter and one-meter dive. 

“We had a strong performance today … We’re really happy with how we performed today under a high level of fatigue and we’re excited about what’s coming up in the next few weeks as we approach Mizzou,” said coach Sage Hopkins.

Up next, San Jose State women’s swimming and diving will face Stanford at home on Friday at 1 p.m.
