The San Jose State men’s golf team headed to Eisenhower Golf Course over the weekend to take part in the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. 23 teams took part in the tournament and SJSU took third place after the three-day tournament concluded.
Round One
The Spartans finished the first round in the middle of the pack with an overall score of 292, tying for eighth place.
Senior Caleb Shetler was the Spartans’ best player on the course, shooting -2 (70). Senior Kotaro Murata was right behind him as he shot an even 72.
Freshman Alaric Mercie De Soultrait shot +3 (75) in his Spartan debut.
Round Two
SJSU had their best outing of the tournament on Saturday.
Sophomore Zubair Firdaus shot 5-under 67 and Shelter shot a 4-under 68 to give the Spartans a second-place finish in round two. They finished with a 568 overall score and were second only to Colorado State.
Through two rounds, Shetler was fourth in individual scoring and was a key reason the Spartans were high on the leaderboards.
Round Three
In the final round of play, the Spartans maintained their high standard of play but finished third overall in the final standings with Colorado University overtaking them.
Shetler finished the tournament with a 212 (-4), good for sixth in the tournament.

The Spartans will head to Bremerton, Wash. to compete in the Husky Invitational on Sept. 19 and 20.
