In game two of a three-game trip to Ogden, Utah, the Spartans defeated UC Riverside 3-1 to start the season 2-0.
San Jose State won the first set, 25-23, but lost the second set, 25-20. They would go on to win the next two sets to seal the deal.
Haylee Nelson led the team with 17 kills and 10 digs. Amethyst Harper was behind her with 14 kills. Nelson moved up from 13th place to 11th place on the San Jose State all-time kills list following their win.
Brooke Bryant had a career-high nine kills on a career-high 24 attempts to push the Spartans to victory.
Mia Schafer recorded a double-double of her own with 25 assists and 14 digs. This was half of SJSUs total assists for the game.
The Spartans start their season with two strong wins, and they are hoping to keep the momentum rolling through their third game of the season at the Webster State Tournament.
The Spartans play the Wildcats on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
