Tennis eliminated from Mountain West tournament in second round

San Jose State women’s tennis lost in the second round of the Mountain West Championship against Colorado State after upsetting Boise State in the first round.  

The Spartans beat No. 7 seed Boise State, 4-2, in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday. The Spartans lost in doubles to start the day but redeemed themselves in the singles matches.

Irena Muradyan won in the first singles game, 6-0, 6-3. Jovana Babic won the next singles game 6-4, 6-2. After losing the doubles point, back-to-back wins gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead.

Lara Marco Mas clinched the match-winning point for SJSU, advancing the Spartans to the second round.

In its second game of the tournament, SJSU lost to No. 2 Colorado State, 4-0.

The Spartans had double trouble in both games and lost the doubles point against Colorado State. Raquel Villan Pereira and Babic squeezed out a 6-2 doubles win.

With three straight singles losses, San Jose State lost the match 4-0.

Muradyan was winning her singles game 6-4, 5-3, but was left unfinished. Marco Mas had her match cut short, however she was winning, 6-0, 5-5.

The Spartans finish their season 7-15 and 2-8 in conference play. They struggled in doubles play, but on numerous occasions, recovered in singles.
