San Jose State’s new record is 20-24, the latest loss against UC Berkeley. The Spartans went up against and lost to the Golden Bears on Wednesday, April 27, 4-1.
The team’s head coach, Tammy Lohmann, returned to her “old turf.”
Coach Lohmann had spent 15 seasons as associate head coach and despite the history with the game’s opponent, it was not enough to lead the Spartans to a win.
A pattern of a slow start has been a regular occurrence during the Spartans’ matches. The match against UC Berkeley was no different. The first four innings saw scores of 0-0.-0.
The game picked up in the fifth inning, although in favor of the Golden Bears.
UC Berkeley’s sophomore Alexis Bishop hit a home run over the scoreboard.She led the Golden Bears to score and take the lead, 4-0.
With the game coming to an end, the Spartans were up against the wall. Up next at batting was senior Jenessa Ullegue.
Ullegue managed to hit a home run and score, helping the Spartans’ return to the scoreboard, 1-4. Despite the home run and the energy that would boost team morale, the next batters did not succeed in scoring.
The Spartans took another hit and lost to UC Berkeley The game ended with a 4-1 score.
San Jose State has “work to do” before heading to their next Mountain West three-game series against San Diego State. The first game is on Friday, April 29, at 6 p.m.
