No. 5 San Jose State women’s golf took the iconic leap into Poppie’s Pond after winning the Mountain West Championship by 30 strokes with a -4 860.

The Mountain West Championship was held at the historic Dinah Shore Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. from April 18-20.

Senior Natasha Andrea Oon led the Spartans at the course where just last month she made her first LPGA start, with a -10 206, which was an event record. Oon was boosted by a first round score of -7 65 which was the low round of the tournament overall.

Freshman Lucia Lopez-Ortega had one of her best performances of her young career, finishing with a score of -3.

Junior Kajsa Arwefäll shot even par while senior Anotnio Malate shot a +9.

New Mexico finished in second with a score of +26 and Fresno State followed behind with a score of +27.

Individually the Spartans dominated during the championship as Oon finished first, Lopez-Ortega placed second and Arwefäll tied for third.

SJSU dominated the first round from the beginning fueled by Oon’s incredible round. The Spartans opened up a 12 stroke lead after day one and never looked back.

The Spartans season isn’t over just yet as they will continue their dominance at NCAA regionals May 9-11.
