San Jose State baseball lost to UNLV, 13-7, in game two of their three-game series.
After losing game one by one run, the Spartans were fighting to tie up the series, but it was too little too late.
UNLV took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Dalton Bowling singled in the top of the second and came home to tie the game 1-1 for the Spartans.
The Spartans gave up a run in the bottom of the third to go down 2-1, but they kept it only a one-run inning. In the top of the fourth, Omar Gastelum doubled off the wall to bring in the tying run for the Spartans to tie the game 2-2.
Over the next three innings, the Spartans’ defense gave up seven runs and found themselves down 9-2 going into the top of the seventh.
In the top of the seventh, Hunter Dorraugh hit a two-run home run over the fence to narrow the deficit.
The Spartans gave up four more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to find themselves down 13-4. In one final push in the top of the ninth, the Spartans scored three runs. Charles Mcadoo hit a big triple to right center to make it a 13-7 ball game, but it was not enough to make up for their defensive lapses.
