San Jose State beat San Diego State Saturday night, 11-8. This was unexpected as the Spartans had a rough start.

Besides a rough start, the game had its moments.

Sophomore Charles McAdoo set a new SJSU on-base record with 32 straight games, replacing the former 2018 record by Brett Bautista.

Another moment to remember was sophomore Dalton Bowling’s “catch of the day,” his catch being just over the net. https://twitter.com/sanjosestatebsb/status/1512986114314801153?s=21&t=Eu6InLdxGniIYoGxQl_WGg

During the seventh inning, freshman Makana Olaso gave the audience a surprise as the ball cleared the fence.

Olaso hit a home run during his first pitch in the game, 7-4.

Going into the ninth inning, it was where the Spartans began to turn the game around.

Time was of the essence for the Spartans as the Aztecs were seen to have the win in their hands. As many did not see coming, the Spartans skidded back into a surprising comeback.

With the Spartans’ comeback, many shared their regrets of switching the channel or giving up hope on Twitter.

Spectators shared their regrets as SJSU picked up the anticipation for a possible win in the final innings of the game.

Sophomore Robert Hamchuk tied the game with two RBI doubles. Their score of 8-4 in the eighth inning turned to a tie, 8-8, in the top ninth.

The game nearing the end, the question then became: will it be a tie, a close call or an unexpected win?

The ninth inning ended in a tie, 8-8, and the Spartans and the Aztecs headed into extra innings. SJSU Athletics shared that it was the third time for the Spartans to go into extra innings, as well as winning the games in those ten innings.

Scoring four more times in the ninth, SJSU continued to score in the extra inning. The score climbed to a mind-boggling 10-8.

To wrap up the game in an unexpected victory, junior John Colette scored and the Spartans won 11-8 against the Aztecs.

Head coach Brad Sanfilippo said the team “found a way to get it done” and “had a lot of fight to them” to explain the unforeseen win for the Spartans.

Now, SJSU will conclude their three-game conference against SDSU on Sunday, April 10, at 1 p.m.
