San Jose State tennis continued their four-game road trip on Sunday, facing the UNLV Rebels. The Spartans’ competition proved to be too much and were swept 4-0 in Fresno.
The city of Fresno wasn’t too nice of hosts to San Jose State. The Spartans’ losing skid extended to four games and they emerged winless from their road trip.
To begin the day, the Spartans were slated for doubles action.
In match number two, Irena Murayan and Rozalina Youseva put up a good fight, however, eventually fell 6-4.
Doubles match number three exhibited a similar fortune for SJSU. R. Villan Pereira and Jovana Babic were stonewalled by their opponents, losing the match 6-1. As a result, UNLV captured the doubles point.
With singles matches up next, the Spartans were hoping for better results.
Singles match number one featured Alba Pedrero Galindo for San Jose State. Galindo helped get the Spartans back on track by dominating her first set 6-0. Her next set was extremely close but ultimately lost 7-5.
As Galindo prepared for her third set, things weren’t going too well for the rest of her teammates. In the rest of the singles matches, no other Spartan won a set. SJSU was subsequently swept by UNLV.
Women’s tennis’ struggles persisted on Sunday afternoon, dropping to 4-10 on the season. Additionally, SJSU is still in search of its first Mountain West victory.
San Jose State will return home and play its final matches at the Spartan Tennis Complex.
Women’s tennis will try to turn their mojo around on Friday against Fresno State at noon.
