The Spartans lost to Colorado State, 6-4, in game one of a three game series.

Despite the loss, the Spartans came out of the gates swinging with malice.

At the top of the first, Alyssa Graham and Jenessa Ullegue singled back-to-back to start the game. With Graham on third, and Ullegue on second, Karizma Bergesen homered to left field to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead.

Colorado State scored two runs and cut it to a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first. By the fourth inning, it was tied.

Ullegue scored for the Spartans in the top of the fifth on an Ashley Rico RBI. However, the Rams tied it up again, 4-4, in the bottom of the fifth with the help of some Spartans’ errors.

Moving into the sixth inning, the Spartans could not generate any offense. The Rams capitalized, scoring two runs and taking a 6-4 lead to ultimately win the game.

The Spartans came out with confidence yet the errors on the defensive side of the ball proved to be detrimental.

Jocylyn Vidal was 3-3 hitting for the Spartans and she may come up big against the Rams in the rest of the series.
