After a successful first day at the Don Kirby Invite, the San Jose State track team rallied together to finish off another productive day on the track.

The second and final day of the meet saw the SJSU sprints team take to the track first, as the 60-meter dash was in the starting blocks to begin the day.

Paul McCants (18), Jalen Adams (24) and Jabriel Smith (40) all managed to make the Top-40 for the overall standings in the qualifying round, bringing in times of 6.961, 6.998 and 7.15, respectively.

Micah Hairston(10) continued to add fuel to the flame with a Top-10 finish in the 60-meter hurdles preliminary round, logging in a time of 8.22.

As the recently crowned SJSU 60-meter record holder, Roman Johnson finished with another blazing fast time, finishing with a 6.723 on the day placing him No. 11 overall in the preliminary round.

Christian Rodriguez led the way for the Spartans’ distance team, as the freshman ended with an impressive time of 1:53.01, placing him in the Top-5 overall for the 800 meters.

Fellow Spartan Michael Chadwick (13) also contributed to the team’s success in the 800 meters, finishing with a time of 1:58.87.

With the track meet coming to an end, there was one more event that needed to be conquered — the 4×400 meter relay. SJSU put together two teams to compete in this event, resulting in a team “A” and team “B”.

The Spartans were one of only two schools to have the firepower to form two teams in this relay.

The Spartans’ team “A” consisted of Mekhi Evans-Bey, Nicholas Harper, Mikael Tyler and Bashar Barksdale, while team “B” consisted of Micah Hairston, Cecil Ebiwok, Paul McCants and Jalen Adams.

Both teams raced hard until the very end, resulting in team “A” ending in a time of 3:15.00, placing them No. 6 overall on the day, while team “B” ended in a time of 3:31.65, placing them at No. 15 overall.

With the Don Kirby Invitational meet in the books, the Spartans will look to prepare for the Mountain West Championship on Feb. 24. in Albuquerque.
