Flips, twists and turns. Too simple to describe SJSU’s gymnastics team. SJSU finished Friday night with a score of 195.975, while Air Force finished with a score of 192.450.

Air Force’s Amber Boll, came close to SJSU’s team during the bar event with a score of 9.825. SJSU ended up filling up the top five spots for highest score on the bar. With a record-breaking score of 49.350 on the bars, it was an accomplishment for SJSU’s Friday meet.

The song choices, as well as the scores and work all gymnasts put into Friday night’s meet meshed well to bring more accomplishments for SJSU.

“Being super aggressive in all the skills translates to higher scores,” said junior Emma Milne. “It was just everyone trusting their gymnastics enough to go big. And it really paid off, which was super exciting,” said junior Emma Milne.

Stellar performances from gymnasts like Milne added to tonight’s work and effort. Milne finished with a 9.850 on the bars.

Throughout the meet, everyone worked to build up the momentum the team was on. Cheers from the crowd and from within the team only boosted the team’s morale.

“It makes us trust each other,” said junior Jada Mazury. “We still try to be the loudest team out here. That really, really helps our overall atmosphere.”

Mazury received a score of 9.900 on the bars. A great feat within the second session of tonight’s meet.

“We have a team now, we have more depth of really good performances. They’re starting to believe in themselves,” said head coach Joanne Bowers.

Coach Bowers can only hope people see that at every meet the team has.

After tonight’s meet, there seems to be more talent, effort and sportsmanship to be expected in the future.
