Meghan Oberg led San Jose State with 17 points and 7 rebounds but it wasn’t enough to outlast Wyoming on the road as the Spartans fell, 75-54.

Much of the Cowgirl’s success Wednesday night was attributed to the Spartan’s inability to rebound the basketball, which has plagued them most of the season.

SJSU gave up a whopping 23 offensive rebounds to the Cowgirls, which translated to a 21 shot-attempt advantage.

More rebounds also meant more second-chance points for Wyoming, as they clobbered the Spartans 21-4 in that department.

The Spartans came out firing from all cylinders, scoring a season-high 25 points in the first quarter but had a hard time finding the bottom of the net the rest of the night — only scoring 29 total points in frames two through four combined.

Wyoming’s starting five accounted for 57 of their 75 total points, more than SJSU’s point total for the night.

The Cowgirls were led by senior guard Quinn Weidemann with 18 points, 15 of which came from beyond the 3-point line.

Last week’s Mountain West Freshman of the Week Allyson Fertig was relatively held in check, scoring eight points and snatching seven rebounds.

Spartan senior forward Cyndi Lewis, who played in her 117th game, finished the night with 13 points and five rebounds on 50% shooting.

The Spartans return to their home hardwood for a game against Colorado State on Feb.12 followed by a rematch against the Cowgirls on Valentine’s Day.
