The San Jose State Spartans dropped their 13th game of the season to the UNLV Lady Rebels 74-54.

“I think sometimes we get into the third quarter and it’s coming down and we kind of shy away from the pressure that they put up so I think we should continuously attack the pressure that we get faced with,” said SJSU guard Ella Ogier.

Ogier had 12 points on 6/13 shooting from the field.

Spartans’ star forward Cydni Lewis continued to struggle from the field, scoring in single digits for the third time in a row with only three rebounds. She was a thief though on the defensive end, grabbing three steals on the night.

The Lady Rebels were led in scoring by Alyssa Durazo-Frescas, who had 24 points including an incredible 6/10 shooting from the 3-point line. It was a single-game high in points for her this season and unequivocally one of her best performances of the season.

UNLV center Desi-Rae Young notched her fifth double-double of the season going for 15 points and 15 rebounds.

The Lady Rebels are the lords of the plains in the Mountain West as they have won four games in a row and eight of their last nine. During the four game win streak, each game has been decided by double digits for a squad led by first-year head coach Lindy La Rocque.

The Spartans are trending in the opposite direction as they are on a 10-game losing streak and have lost by eight points or less only twice during that time span.

“Second half we came out and it was rough,” said Spartan head coach Jamie Craighead. “We can’t get a group to compete on the court for 40 minutes.”

Some of Craighead’s frustration also stems from the team lacking a third player who is able to step up and deliver counterpunches.

“There’s always a third player on the other team that gives them that extra pop and we can’t find one … it’s really sad.”

Words weren’t minced for a head coach doing anything she can to find her team back in the win column for the first time since Nov. 24.
