San Jose State women’s volleyball (11-7, 5-3 MW) defeated Fresno State (7-8, 3,4 MW ) 3-0 in dominating fashion on Thursday night
Through three sets, the SJSU offense was firing on all cylinders, and the Bulldogs could not find a way to contain the red hot Spartans at Save Mart Center
Both teams came out strong in the first set and it wasn’t until the midway point when SJSU managed to go on a 6-0 scoring run to establish a 14-7 lead. From here it was all gas, no brakes for the Spartans for the remainder of the set.
While the blue and gold continued to find its stride, the same could not be said for the Bulldogs. They failed to put together any offensive runs to try and limit the damage and only recorded twelve points in the set.
SJSU closed out the set on a 7-1 scoring run and took it 25-12.
The second set saw the Spartans continue where they left off and they caught fire with an 11-1 run.
Starting sophomore setter Mia Schafer assisted in the first six points scored for the Spartans and finished with a team-high 28 assists.
Fresno State attempted to claw its way back after falling behind big early on but SJSU had no plans to slow down and remained sharp on offense.
The Spartans piled on to their lead and finished the set strong to secure the second set of the match 25-14.
The final set was all that stood in the way of SJSU achieving the sweep while the Bulldogs continued to look for a momentum shift.
Unlike the first two sets, this one remained close with both teams looking for an opportunity to gain the advantage.
The set remained close at 21-19 with the Spartans in front. All they had to do was produce one final offense push to secure the win
They managed to do just that and narrowly closed the set out 25-21.
The Spartans will travel to Albuquerque next to take on the University Of New Mexico. The game is set to begin at 6:30 p.m MT on the Mountain West Digital Network.
