San Jose State men’s basketball (3-3) played host to South Dakota (4-3) on Tuesday night and locked down the win, 61-52.

The win keeps the Spartans undefeated at home during the early part of the season.

“I asked a couple guys in the locker room how did you play? Not very good coach. They told me,” said head coach Tim Miles. “It is good to win and find stuff to improve on.”
Sophomore guard Omari Moore led the Spartans in scoring with 18 points, to go along with his team-high six rebounds. Moore also had the game-sealing pass to freshman forward Shon Robinson who then went for a two-handed dunk.

“I am still mixing players and line-ups to find our ‘death’ line-up,” Miles said. “One thing for sure is Moore is growing and is showing to be our go-to scorer.”

There were a few scoring droughts for both SJSU and South Dakota with each team having a drought of five minutes or more.

“There are going to be some ups and downs and we saw that tonight,” Miles said. “We were able to weather it, stretch it out and get the win.”

Freshman forward Tibet Gorener shot 50% from the 3-point line leading to 14 points in the win.

Sophomore center Ibrahima Diallo also managed to reach double figures in points with 10, he finished the game with three rebounds and two blocks. The transfer from Ohio State is starting to find his groove in the Spartans’ starting line-up.

The next game for SJSU will be on Friday at home once again, this time against North Dakota at 7 p.m. You can watch the game on the Mountain West Network.
