San Jose State women’s basketball (2-3, 0-0 MW) stomped the University of Pacific Tigers (2-2, 0-0 WCC) Saturday afternoon 71-60.

SJSU came out playing inspired defense. The Spartans created several turnovers that led to easy fast break points. The Spartans held Pacific to 29 points in the first half.

Sophomore guard Ellie Boni and senior forward Cydni Lewis were on fire in the first half. Lewis ended the half with 13 points with Boni scoring 12 points.

With time winding down in the second quarter, Boni pulled up for a buzzer-beating three-point shot to extend the Spartans lead. At the end of the half, SJSU had a comfortable 43-29 lead.

Pacific sophomore guard Erica Adams did all she could to help her team come back but her effort wasn’t enough. Adams played possessed and finished with 17 points and five rebounds.

SJSU senior guard A’tyanna Gaulden and junior guard Ella Ogier both had a big second half. Ogier ended the game with a double double. She had 14 points with 10 rebounds.

Gaulden played huge down the stretch to solidify the win for the Spartans. Gaulden scored 13 points and had four assists coming off the bench. Gaulden played with so much passion and intensity on the court that it energized her team on defense.

Gaulden and Ogier combined for eight steals on the day to lead a dominant defensive attack on the Tigers.

SJSU looks to win their second game in a row when they take on Academy of art Wednesday night at Provident Credit Union Event Center. Game starts at 6:00 p.m.
