Cold second half sends Spartans to defeat on the road against Cardinal

It was a tale of two halves on Monday night, as the San Jose State men’s basketball (1-1 0-0 MW) lost on the road against Stanford (2-1, 0-0 PAC-12) 76-62.

After going up 38-29 at halftime, the Spartans were outscored by the Cardinal 47-24 in the second half.

Turnovers were a problem for the Spartans as the team had 14 of them in the loss.

SJSU junior guard Omari Moore was the top scorer of the night with 21 points to go along with  three rebounds and two assists in the loss.

Reigning Mountain West Freshman of the Week guard Alvaro Cardenas mustered only 5 points and one rebound in 19 minutes.

Sophomore forward Tibet Gorener also managed to find double digits for the Spartans with a stat line of 14 points and four rebounds. 

Stanford out rebounded SJSU 42-27.

Stanford freshman forward Harrison Ingram was tied for the top scorer for the Cardinal with 19 points. Stanford senior forward Jaiden Delaire also had a good game with 19 points.

The Cardinal were able to secure the win thanks to 15 assists as a team. Sophomore guard Michael O’Connell had five of those assists. 

SJSU will hit the road to partake in the ABE Lemons Classic with the first match coming against California Baptist University in Riverside, Calif. on Thursday at 7 p.m.
