San Jose State women’s volleyball (18-8, 12-4 MW) came out on top 3-1 against Boise State (20-9, 9-7 MW) in its home game on Saturday.

The Spartans held the match on senior day and recognized the seniors libero Sarah Smevog and outside hitter Haylee Nelson during the opening ceremony.

The first set started with swift action from the Broncos going 4-0 and SJSU trailing behind slowly.

Despite the early upset, the Spartans kept their composure, smiling and encouraging each other.

Slowly but surely, SJSU began to catch up to Boise and on the seventh point 7-7 things began to lighten up.

The Spartans’ graduate student middle blocker Ryann Thomison went in for a save, blocking a shot and sending the ball thundering back to the Broncos.

The Spartans followed closely behind Boise, only losing the first set by two points 26-24.

The Broncos had us in the first set but SJSU turned it around, sending not only the thunder but lightning to the court.

SJSU overcame an evenly matched opponent 3-1, winning sets two 25-19, three 25-22 and four 25-12 with overwhelming margins.
