San Jose State men’s soccer (8-5-3, 6-1-2 WAC) will host Houston Baptist (3-13, 1-8 WAC) on Halloween day for its final home game of the 2021-2022 season.
The Spartans have been red hot in the month of October, remaining unbeaten in their last eight conference matches with seven wins, one draw, and no losses.
SJSU kept the streak alive with a long fought double overtime draw against the Chicago State Cougars on Friday night 0-0.
Senior forward Rudi Castro has found his stride scoring four goals in the last eight conference matchups. He will be the player to keep an eye on throughout this matchup.
The Huskies gained a bit of momentum after securing a win against Utah Valley 2-0 to snap a nine-game losing streak stretching all the way back to early September.
Unfortunately for Houston Baptist, they were not able to build off of the Utah Valley victory and suffered a 4-0 loss to Seattle University in their following match.
The last three battles on the pitch against these two squads all resulted in close games with the Huskies coming out on top in overtime in one and the other two meetings resulting in a draw.
With the end of the regular season approaching rapidly both squads will be hungry to close out their respective seasons on a high note.
For the Spartans, finishing the season strong will be particularly important as they prepare for a playoff run in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.
SJSU currently sits in third place in the WAC standings and could secure the second seed in the tournament if they win their remaining games and Air Force drops one of their remaining matches.
Kickoff is set for 3 p.m at the Spartan Soccer Complex and one the WAC Digital Network.
