Spartans finish Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament 5-0

Spartans take down Brown

San Jose State men’s water polo (12-12, 1-2 GCC) defeated Brown University (14-11, 2-2 IL) early this morning, 16-10.

Brown opened the match with a quick 2-0 lead, scoring within the first three minutes of the game, but the Spartans responded by scoring five points to end the first period and led 5-3.

SJSU extended their lead to 6-3, but Brown came roaring back in the second period, as they scored three straight unanswered points.

The Spartans answered back with a run of their own as they went into halftime leading 7-6, after a shot by freshman Bende Pardi.

SJSU opened the third period with a 6-1 scoring run, which put the game on ice.

The Spartans held Brown to a .333 shot percentage, 10-for-30 on shots in the game and they were only 2-for-12 on power plays.

SJSU was 16-for-36 on shot opportunities in the game and 5-for-12 on power plays.

Spartans’ sophomore Mark Kis had a dominating performance against the Ivy League school, as he scored five points on nine shots.

Spartans dominate Fresno Pacific

Less than an hour after defeating Brown, SJSU men’s water polo (13-12, 1-2 GCC) took on Fresno Pacific (6-18, 2-3 WWPA) and dominated the Sunbirds, 20-5.

The Spartans inflicted their dominance early in the game, as they scored seven times in the first period alone.

SJSU freshman Bende Pardi scored five times in the period on five attempts, which gave the Spartans a quick 5-0 lead to start the game.

They finished the first quarter up 7-1.

SJSU continued to score at a high clip in the second quarter, as they went into halftime with a 5-0 scoring run.

After the half, their scorching run kept going in the third period, scoring four more points before Sunbirds’ freshman Bodhi Bowden ended the 9-0 run by scoring FPU’s second point of the game.

The Spartans scored four more times to extend their lead, as FPU scored three points in the fourth period, but it was not enough.

Spartans defeat Biola to cap off the weekend tournament

After winning back-to-back games, the Spartans (14-12, 1-2 GCC) defeated Biola University (1-18, 0-7 PWC) 17-6 to secure a 5-0 record in the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.

Spartans junior Nick Marchione wasted no time to open the scoring for SJSU, doing so within the first 17 seconds of the game.

Within a minute, Biola tied the game, 1-1.

Directly after, the Spartans scored five unanswered points, extending their lead to 6-1.

Biola attempted to match SJSU, but ended the first period down, 6-3.

The game got away from Biola, as the Spartans went on a 3-1 scoring run during the second period and went into halftime with a 9-4 lead.

SJSU entered the third period and immediately started another scoring run, going on a 4-0 run before Biola stopped them and scored a point of their own bringing the game to 13-5.

The Spartans ended the third period up 14-5.

Again, in the third period, the Spartans continued their relentless run as they scored three points
