Men’s soccer preview: Spartans look to get rolling against Dixie State

By Benny Garcia — Editor

SJSU men’s soccer (2-5-1, 0-1-0 WAC) heads back home to take on the Dixie State University Trailblazers (1-7-0, 0-1-0 WAC) for a conference matchup on Friday night.

Both teams head into the game struggling.

As for the Spartans, they enter with four straight losses and without a win in their last four matches.

Their last win came against UC Davis on September 5, it was their only win of the calendar month.

They most recently took a loss against Air Force University 2-0 on Sept. 25 and in that game, the Spartans simply could not create enough opportunities to take the lead against Air Force.

Senior midfielders Finlay Wood and Willy Miranda had one shot on goal each, which would not suffice against the Falcons.

On the other hand, DSU has not won a game since their season opener on August 26 against UC San Diego.

Since then, their matches have resulted in nothing but losses.

They are currently on a seven-game losing streak.

In their most recent loss, which was handed down by Utah Valley University 2-1 on Sept. 25, the Trailblazers could only muster up three-shot opportunities with two of those being on goal.

Utah Valley was able to create 18 shot opportunities with 12 on goal.

Looking at the matchup ahead, as simple as it may sound, the victor will depend on who can create more opportunities than the other.

In their last two losses, the Trailblazers have only had four shots on goal combined.

While the Spartans have had eight shots on goal.

One team will break their losing streak when these teams go head-to-head on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Spartans Soccer Complex and streaming live on the WAC Digital Network.
