San Jose State men’s soccer (2-3-1) will look to snap its two game losing streak as it heads to Fresno to take on the University of the Pacific (4-2).
The previous meeting between these teams was back in 2019 with the Tigers securing the 2-1 victory over the Spartans.
SJSU holds a 2-4 record against the University of the Pacific since 2014 and both of those wins were at home in San Jose. The Spartans are 0-3 against the Tigers on the road.
SJSU is coming off a 2-0 loss against UC San Diego last Thursday night.
Defensively the Spartans started out strong in the first half holding the Tritons to only one shot attempt.
However, the momentum on defense could not be carried over to the second half as the Spartans allowed nine shot attempts and two goals.
Sophomore goalkeeper Eric Waltz recorded five saves in the game but it was not enough to slow down the potent Triton offense.
The Tigers are coming off of a 2-0 loss themselves against Sacramento State. The Tigers put up 11 total shots with seven of them being on goal. Despite this, they failed to find the back of the net on any of those attempts.
Both teams are looking to bounce back after tough losses, which should provide an intense matchup.
The Spartans defense has been solid, but has struggled when it comes to closing out games. It will be tested with a strong Pacific offense that loves to shoot the ball.
The game will come down to who can gain the advantage on their respective side of the ball. If the Spartans can contain the Tiger offense and limit shots they will end up with the win.
If the Tiger offense gets its rhythm going early it could be trouble for the Spartans.
The kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m. at Knoles Field in Stockton, California.
