San Jose State women’s tennis (14-1, 7-1 MW) suffered its first defeat of the season 4-2 against the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (11-6, 7-2 MW) at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Spartans came out flat losing two of their three doubles matches while the third bout was declared unfinished.

The Rebels’ Izumi Asano and En-Pei Huang sparked UNLV’s dominance with a 6-4 victory in their doubles match improving their record as a tandem to 14-1 on the season.

The momentum kept on running for the Rebels.

Huang took care of SJSU sophomore Rozalina Youseva 6-3, 6-2. The lady Rebels then were victorious in two more singles games to take a commanding 4-0 lead.

The Spartans were able to find a groove as Junior Alba Pedrero Galindo won her single match against Asano 6-2, 6-3.

Freshman Raquel Villan Pereira took Sam Smith to three sets and outlasted the senior Rebel winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Despite SJSU’s back-to-back singles wins, Rebel freshman Aura Fang cemented the first Spartan loss with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Spartan freshman Jovana Babic.

The Spartans have one final game against San Diego State to finish off the regular season.

SJSU will be going against the Aztecs at noon on Saturday in Las Vegas.
