The San Jose State track and field teams attended the Sacramento State Invitational at the Hornet Stadium on Saturday.

The Spartans came out on top against Sacramento State and UC Davis, with both the men and women taking first place.

It was a close competition for the men as they narrowly secured first place overall finishing with a total of 109 points, with the Aggies not too far behind coming in second with 107 points and the Hornets finishing in third place with 97.

Sophomore throws Jacob Lopez claimed the first victory for SJSU in the shot put event, landing 15.86 meters and taking first place.

The men grabbed several other first-place spots as well, with senior sprints Aidan Jardon and freshman distance runner Christian Rodriguez standing out of the crowd.

Jardon took first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.14 and Rodriguez took first place in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:53.51.

Both sprinters, alongside freshman Harry Overstreet and senior Nicholas Harper, were a part of the ‘A’ Team for the 4×400-meter dash. The ‘A’ Team finished first with a time of 3:18.50, 1.18 faster than Sacramento State’s ‘A’ Team time.

The women put together a dominant performance, finishing first place with a whopping 116 points. UC Davis secured second with a score of 106 points, and Sacramento State finished third with 97.

The Spartans began securing victories in the ninth event, the long jump, where sophomore Mahkaia Lee took first with a distance of 5.99 meters and senior Kylia Smith right behind in second with a distance of 5.76 meters.

Senior Daryia Greene had an excellent meet with three first-place victories, finishing with a time of 23.89 in the 200-meter dash, 54.53 in the 400-meter dash and 3:49.42 in the 4X400-meter dash.

An overall successful meet for the men and women, keeping true to the Spartans’ “Speed City” moniker.

SJSU track and field’s next competition is the Fresno State Invitational at 8 a.m. Saturday in the Veterans Memorial Stadium located in Clovis, Calif.
