San Jose State baseball (3-6) lost its first game 5-0 of its series against Creighton (10-7) on Saturday.
This comes after the Spartans were originally scheduled to play against UNLV, but had to reschedule because of COVID-19.
Playing against the Rebels could’ve meant a smooth victory for SJSU as the Rebels had relatively even seasons. The Bluejays, on the other hand, are a whole different ballpark.
The game started relatively even until the bottom of the second inning when Creighton’s senior infielder Dax Roper scored a run to right-center for the 1-0 lead.
The Bluejays carried their lead to the sixth inning, with the Spartans unable to find any opportunities.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Creighton’s redshirt freshman outfielder Alan Roden scored a run on a passed ball increasing their lead to 2-0.
Things ramped up exponentially in the eighth inning after Roden blasted the ball left of the moon for a solo home run adding to the Bluejay lead.
Soon after senior infielder Dax Roper and redshirt senior Ryan Mantle followed Roden up scoring back-to-back runs to make it 5-0 and cementing the Bluejay’s victory.
Historically, Creighton has played outstanding seasons in the past, ending some with twice the number of wins compared to its losses.
If this first game is an indication of anything, it is a very difficult series for the Spartans.
SJSU baseball will play the second game of its series against Creighton in the TD Ameritrade Park located in Omaha, Neb. on Sunday at 2 p.m.
