The time is here.
San Jose State men’s basketball (5-15, 3-13 MW) will take on the University of Wyoming Cowboys (13-10, 7-9 MW) Wednesday in the opening round of the 2021 Mountain West Basketball Championship tournament in Las Vegas.
The Spartans finished the season with a four-game losing streak, which earned San Jose State the No. 9 spot in the conference.
While the regular season ended prematurely, the Spartans welcomed back talented senior guard Richard Washington, who was out for five games because of concussion protocol.
They will look to him to provide the offensive power they lacked for the final few weeks of the season.
And they are going to need all the offense they can get.
The Cowboys averaged 75.6 points per game this season with their highest scoring game coming against Mississippi Valley State on opening night where they tallied 97 points.
Wyoming finished the season 5-5 over their final 10 games to earn the No. 8 seed in the conference.
Freshman guard Marcus Williams was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year by coaches on Tuesday.
Williams dominated his opponents in his first year as a starter.
In 19 of his 22 games played during the season, the 6-foot-2 guard scored double digits with a season-high 30 points on Dec. 19.
San Jose State and Wyoming were originally scheduled to face off for the final series of the year, but the games were cancelled because of positive COVID-19 positive cases within SJSU’s program.
The Spartans’ last match-up against Wyoming was a 71-66 loss on Feb. 1, 2020.
Since 2014 the teams have played 14 times with Wyoming dominating the series with a 13-1 record.
The Cowboys are on a six-game win streak since San Jose State’s last victory in 2016.
Catch the action on Wednesday with tip-off at 11 a.m. on the Mountain West Network.
