San Jose State women’s tennis got a nail-biting 4-3 victory over University of San Francisco on Friday and look to continue their undefeated start to the 2021 season against Santa Clara University on Saturday.
The Spartans are starting off their season strong at 3-0 off dominating 4-1 and 4-0 victories against University of California Irvine and Sacramento State.
SJSU (3-0) has started off each game day winning the doubles point.
At USF, sophomore Rozalina Youseva and senior Savannah Sendar won in decisive fashion, sweeping their opponents 6-0.
The second win came from doubles team Alba Galindo Pedrero and Lara Marco Mas who won their set and the doubles point through a gritty 77-63 match.
The Spartans won their final three points by way of singles’ victories.
Galindo Pedrero won the first point with a straight set win, 6-1, 6-0.
Muradyan added another point with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
The third and final point for SJSU came from sophomore Lara Marco Mas who had a tougher game with 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Santa Clara University (1-2) is next on the schedule for the Spartans. The Broncos are coming off a tough loss against Stanford.
SCU’s doubles team is just as potent as SJSU’s.
They won a point for the Broncos in their first two games of the season.
The Broncos’ player to watch is freshman Finley Kalinic, who is currently 2-1 in singles.
They will look to register their fourth win Saturday at Santa Clara University at 11 a.m.
