Men’s water polo open season against Pepperdine

San Jose State’s men’s water polo (7-14, 1-2 Golden Coast Conference) will dive into its first match of the season against No. 4 Pepperdine Waves (25-8, 4-1 GCC) Friday.  

The Spartans lost 11-8 in their last match against the Waves on Nov. 2, 2019. 

Pepperdine led the match in each quarter with senior center Chris Dilworth leading the Waves with three goals. 

The Spartans can expect another challenging match against Pepperdine Friday.

SJSU will have to look out for the Waves’ junior attacker Balazs Kosa. He scored 93 goals last season and holds a .333 shooting percentage.

Last season the Spartans had a .327 shooting percentage compared to the Waves with a .426.

Returning wing players sophomore’s Finn Pardon and Neil Hofmeijer scored a goal in their last matchup against Pepperdine.

Sophomore driver Ary Kamen, a Malibu native, recorded two goals against his hometown’s university.

The Spartans will visit Pepperdine at the Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool in Malibu starting at 10:30 a.m.
