San Jose State women’s basketball player Ayzhiana Basallo was diagnosed with a torn ACL, the team announced Tuesday.

Basallo left the Spartans’ Dec. 21 game against Utah State in the first quarter, holding her left leg.

“I know [Basallo] will be back better than ever and attack surgery and the recovery process with the same tenacity she does the game of basketball,” head coach Jamie Craighead said in the announcement.

The junior led the Mountain West in scoring last season (18.5 points per game) and won the conference Newcomer of the Year award, helping the Spartans to their best season under Craighead.
