SJSU’s early signing day recap

The Spartans added new blood (and a little bit of old) on both sides of the ball for 2020’s early signing day, announcing 13 additions to Mountain West Coach of the Year Brent Brennan’s team Wednesday.

Ryan Stewart, OL

6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, the offensive lineman from Lincoln-Way East High School chose SJSU over 11 other offers including conference opponent Wyoming.

Assani Berkeley, WR

The receiver from Mission College Preparatory Catholic recorded over 500 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 15 catches in 2019. 

Kavon Baptiste, DB

The 6-foot-3 defensive back from John W. North High School in Riverside collected 32 tackles and five interceptions in 2019. He also caught 17 passes on offense for 201 yards and two scores.

Fernando Carmona, OL

From Las Vegas High School, Carmona is listed as a tackle but also caught 13 passes for over 150 yards and a score in 2019.

Branden Alvarez, WR

Alvarez signed with SJSU from Centennial High School in Corona, Calif. In 2019 the receiver caught 35 passes for 520 yards and five touchdowns.

Kai Peterson-Davison, C

A center from Marin Catholic High School team that made it to the North Coast Section Division IV championship in 2019.

Walker Eget, QB

From West Ranch High School in Santa Clarita, the 6’3 Eget threw for over 3200 yards in 2019 along with 40 touchdowns.

Marcel Sanders, DL

The defensive end from Clovis West High School made the Clovis Sports Report’s all-Clovis football team in 2019 as a tight end.

Nathan Lewis, TE

In 2019 the tight end from Carmichael, Calif., caught 32 passes for 549 yards and eight touchdowns for Jesuit High School.

Donald McKinney, WR

The 6’4 receiver will arrive in San Jose after a year at Santa Ana College where he caught 17 passes for 264 yards and two scores.

Bryun Parham, LB

From Long Beach Poly High School, the linebacker led the team with 102 tackles in 2019, including 24 for a loss and eight sacks.

Matthew Tago, LB

Linebacker from Lancaster, Calif., Tago is the younger brother of former Spartan LB Christian Tago. He transferred from Oregon State after playing two years with the Beavers. He recorded 34 tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles in his time at Corvallis.

Leonard Glass, RB

Glass signs with the Spartans after a year at the College of the Sequoias. The running back began his college career in 2018 at Iowa State before leaving the program the next year.
