Fans react to SJSU’s postponements

Now that San Jose State sports have been postponed due to Santa Clara County COVID restrictions, fans are disappointed because football and women’s basketball have had a great start to their season.

Being the only undefeated team in the Mountain West, Spartans fans are concerned that the postponement will eventually lead to the season being canceled.

Some fans are okay with the season ending because the team will finish with a perfect record. But others feel like the option won’t allow them to show their full potential.

“This season was one for the books. I just wish that we could continue with home games because it’s where the teams shine,” said SJSU junior Collin Christ. “We haven’t been able to achieve this many wins in a long time and it’s something for us, students, to look forward to. It’s a great distraction from what’s going on in the world around us.”

Women’s basketball was also postponed after winning their only game this season against Cal, 56-48.

Fans of the team say they are sad to see that their home games are postponed, and hope that the postponement will not be extended because it would be a detriment to their players’ improvement.

“When I attended SJSU women’s basketball was never ranked so high in the Mountain West it’s beyond upsetting that their home season is postponed,” says SJSU alum Demir Hamiton  “This might damage their start … plus home games are the best way for a team to see their differences during away games and ways to improve on the defensive end.”

The men’s basketball team has yet to start their season but considering they are predicted last in Mountain West home games are the teams strong.

“Last season the team didn’t do well and considering they are ranked so low this season the team was looking forward to their home games because that is where they have the best rhythm on the court,” said SJSU senior Sam Loose.

“This season would help them prove that they are here to last rather than limit them. It’s such an unfortunate circumstance.”
