Spartans Blank Griffins 3-0 In EGFC Season Play

By Gio Gaxiola — Reporter

It was a dominant performance for the San Jose State Rocket League team on Wednesday, as they were able to beat William & Mary University, 3-0 in Week 2 of Electronic Gaming Federation Collegiate season play.

With both the Spartans and Griffins starting the season 0-1, they both looked to get in the win column for the first time this year.

After the Spartans lost a heartbreaking match last week to tournament favorite University of Texas, Arlington — in which they led the series 2-0, only to get reverse swept and lose 3-2 —  they were ready to fix their mistakes going into this match.

“Last week’s loss was tough,” said Johnny “ItsJohnny” Lopez. “Going against William & Mary, we were able to bounce back and play better.”

The Spartans bounced back in a big way. They set the tone early, winning Game 1 by a score of 5-1. They were hungry for goals throughout, and managed to out score the Griffins in total goals 11-2 during the three game set..

At the forefront of the assault was none other than team captain Danial “DD” Warda. He was extremely confident going into and during the match.

The junior had nothing but high praises for his team after the match.

“We’ve been feeling great this week, and I expect us to do well against our opponent.” Warda said. “The casters said it best on stream. We are playing great and do not have to change anything.”

So far the Spartans are 1-1 to start off their EGFC season. With only eight games to play during the year, the team looks to start a winning streak on Wednesday, when they play another 1-1 team in Hofstra University.
