Playmaking point guard Zach Chappell has opened up his recruitment and will transfer from San Jose State, according to his Twitter page.
Chappell averaged 5.7 points and 2 assists per game in his Spartan career. He broke out in the second half of his freshman year, when he started the final nine games of the season and put together five double-digit scoring performances and had four games with 5 or more assists.
Chappell appears to be a casualty of what will be a crowded backcourt for the Spartans in 2020-21.
Those returning at the guard position include last seasons’ leading-scorer Seneca Knight and Omari Moore, who started 20 games at guard as a freshman.
The team’s incoming class adds two guards, including JUCO transfer Jalen Dalcourt and incoming freshman Sebastian Mendoza.
