Junior Tyanna Supreme powerfully led San Jose State women’s water polo with four goals in an 8-7 victory over UC Davis Saturday afternoon.
UCD (6-7) began the match by scoring the first goal in less than one minute of play.
No.13 SJSU (4-7, 0-1 MPSF) wasted no time and Supreme put one in the back of the net on an even strength play.
Less than two minutes later, Supreme scored again giving the Spartans a boost.
Supreme was assisted by junior 2-meter defender Isabella Schmidt and sophomore utility player Olga Descalzi Portell, respectively for both goals.
The Aggies opened up the second period with sophomore Noelle Wijnbelt hitting the back of the SJSU cage.
Spartan goalkeeper Hannah Henry successfully saved five shots during the second quarter.
SJSU sophomore Matilda Moore was the team’s only goal-scorer of the quarter and helped with a 3-2 advantage to close it out.
In the second half Supreme quickly fired past the Aggies’ goalkeeper to put the Spartans up on the scoreboard.
Junior driver Lili Urvari drove the ball to the Aggies’ net, leading the Spartans to 5-3 to end the third.
Both Supreme and junior utility player Riley Agerbeek scored one goal apiece.
A close game, Wijnbelt was also on a goal scoring roll and tied the game up at 7 with less than two minutes of play.
SJSU fought till the end and Urvari triumphantly hit the back of the UCD cage and was assisted by Agerbeek ending the game 8-7.
The Spartans will head to Southern California for the Barbara Kalbus Invite, which will take place Thursday through Sunday.
