San Jose State volleyball (10-15, 5-9 MW) had a killer third set to complete the clean 3-0 sweep over Air Force (8-17, 5-8 MW).
The Spartans got off hot with an early lead and stayed hot to secure the 26-24 win in the first set.
In the second set, SJSU jumped out to a commanding 6-0 lead and hit .360 throughout the set. The Spartans continued to dominate the Falcons for the rest of the second set to finish with a 25-13 victory.
The third set was a battle between the Falcons and the Spartans.
SJSU won the eighth match point at 35-33. The set was also the highest scoring set of the season for the Spartans.
A huge key to SJSU’s success involves key athletic performances from individual players.
Sophomore Tabea Schwarz had a dominant night as she led all hitters with a career-best 12 kills and 14 digs.
Schwarz killer performance helped lead the team to success. The outside hitter also contributed with an ace, a block and an assist.
Sophomore Sarah Smevog led the team defensively with 16 digs while sophomore Mamie Garard put up an outstanding 21 assists and 7 digs.
Senior Thaliana Grajeda joined her teammates with a noteworthy performance. Grajeda shoved down 11 kills in the match.
The team effort, both offensively and defensively, extended its winning streak to three.
The Spartans will look to carry over its winning momentum in New Mexico against the Lobos on Thursday.
