The Spartans kept the pressure on the Wolfpack all game and commandingly earned their third Mountain West victory and head coach Lauren Hanson’s 54th career win.
With this 2-0 win over Nevada (3-12, 2-6 MW), San Jose State (5-7-4, 3-3-2 MW) earned its’ third Mountain West victory on the season and coach Hanson is now the all-time leader in wins in program history.
“Really proud of the team … the program, where we come from, where we are now” said Hanson. “That’s what I’m most proud of is just building this culture.”
SJSU had 10 shots on goal compared to UNR’s one.
Freshman midfielder Sabrina Weinman spoke on SJSU’s constant aggressiveness after the game.
“I think our communication has stepped up tremendously throughout the season, as well as connecting the ball to feet and attacking the pass” said Weinman.
The Spartans’ defense shined, only allowing five shots on the afternoon.
“When you can hold a shutout, the goals will come eventually,” said junior defender Karlee Pottorff. “It’s just our team culture is defense first, attacking after, that’s how we win”
Weinman and senior defender Kristen Amarikwa each scored in a dominant first half for SJSU.
The second half was about not allowing the Wolfpack to creep back into the game, and the Spartans executed.
SJSU’s next game will be at the University of New Mexico on Friday, Oct 25 at 6:30 p.m.
