San Jose State softball (35-15, 15-6 MW) dominated New Mexico (12-38, 3-18 MW) Sunday afternoon 10-0 to secure the three-game sweep and stretch their win streak to eight games.
SJSU started this game off strong and put up two runs in the first frame behind a 2-RBI double from freshman infielder Arianna Miranda, one of its top performers in the game.
Miranda went 2-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBI’s.
In the second, the Spartans tacked on another run on an RBI double from another one of the their key contributors on the afternoon, sophomore infielder Rayohna Sagapolu.
Sagapolu finished the game 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
The game slowed down after the first two frames until the sixth inning came around.
Miranda started off the SJSU rally in the sixth with another RBI double.
Sagapolu and senior infielder Madison Aurin would both single in the inning to add to the Spartans’ flurry of offense.
A walk, a fielder’s choice and multiple wild pitches from the Lobos would also contribute to the big inning.
SJSU racked up seven runs in the sixth frame and ended the game by mercy rule.
Sophomore pitcher Caroline Bowman earned her 12th win of the season. She threw all six innings and allowed only 4 hits and struck out 3.
The Spartans will conclude the regular season at home against the Nevada Wolf Pack starting Friday.
