Women’s tennis eliminated in quarterfinals of Mountain West Championship

After winning its opening match against Fresno State, San Jose State (10-8) tennis was eliminated by No. 1 seed UNLV in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Championship.

On Wednesday, the Spartans won their first dual match against the Bulldogs 4-2.

Doubles pairs senior Miyo Kobayashi and freshman Alba Pedrero Galindo, and junior Tamara Culibrk and sophomore Klara Milojkovic won their sets. With their wins, the Spartans moved into the singles matches with a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Savannah Sendar and Pedrero Galindo won both their singles matches to increase the lead for the Spartans. Sophomore Laura Malsert clinched the win to defeat the Bulldogs, 4-2.

The Spartans moved on to the quarterfinal round to play #1 seed UNLV.

In Thursday’s match, doubles pair Kobayashi and Pedrero Galindo were the only ones to win their match.

The other two doubles matches were both won by the Lady Rebels, giving them a 1-0 advantage heading into the singles matches.

From there, UNLV swept the next three points and ended SJSU’s season in San Diego.

Kobayashi was named All-Mountain West in singles. She finished up her career as a Spartan with a combined singles and doubles victories of 148.
