San Jose State softball (29-15, 9-6 MW) took down UNLV (28-13, 9-8 MW) on Saturday afternoon behind 10 hits and a 4-run seventh inning.
This game was close for all 7 innings.
After the first two frames, the Spartans held a 2-0 advantage behind an RBI single from freshman pitcher Jenessa Ullegue and an RBI double from junior outfielder Makayla Englestad.
The Lady Rebels stormed back in the third inning and tied the game at 2 a piece after a 2 RBI double from freshman infielder Denise Armendariz.
UNLV would jump out to a sizable 5-2 lead after quality fourth and fifth innings.
The Spartans would battle in the final frame and string together four runs to secure the victory and the series win over the Rebels.
It was a solid outing for the Spartans’ senior outfielder Kristen Heffley. Heffley finished the game 2 for the 3 with an RBI.
Englestad also had a quality game. She went 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBI’s and a run scored.
SJSU finished with 2 less hits than UNLV but the strong final frame was enough to carry them to the win.
As for the Rebels, junior outfielder Lauren Tycksen was a key piece to their offense. Tycksen went 3 for 3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored on the afternoon.
The Spartans’ next game will be at Spartan Stadium on Friday, April 26 at 6 p.m. as they take on Utah State.
