San Jose State baseball (18-17, 12-5 MW) lost a heartbreaker in 11 innings to UNLV (21-16, 8-9 MW) Saturday evening, 4-3.
The Rebels tied up the three-game series on a walk-off double from redshirt junior Grant Robbins.
The first run of the evening came from senior infielder Dillon Johnson. Johnson sent a solo shot into left field to strike first for the Rebels.
After a scoreless second, UNLV tacked on two more runs in the third and gave themselves a 3-0 advantage over the Spartans.
SJSU would finally put a run on the board in the fourth inning after a sacrifice fly from junior first baseman Nick Knecht.
The Spartans would go on to add two more runs in the sixth frame to tie the score at three.
The scoreboard would stay knotted all the way through the ninth and eventually forced extra innings.
After a scoreless 10th the Rebels closed it out in the 11th on Robbins’ hit.
The Spartans may have lost the game, but they had two key players that stood out on the evening.
Freshman outfielder Brandon Peterson was a main contributor for SJSU, scoring 2 of the Spartans’ 3 runs himself.
Knecht was another solid contributor for SJSU in the game, going 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI.
In addition to Robbins, Johnson was a main piece to UNLV’s success. He only went 1-for-4, but he scored 2 runs and had an RBI.
The Spartans next game will be the final game against the Rebels. The game will be at 1:05 p.m. in Las Vegas.
