San Jose State beach volleyball (5-3) swept Sacramento State 5-0 at Livermore Park in Sacramento county on Friday.

Coming off back-to-back losses at the Emerald Beach Hotel Classic, the Spartans made a major comeback as all five SJSU pairs won in two sets.

Facing a winless Hornets team, the Spartans had the opportunity to take advantage and begin the match on the right note.

SJSU started off hot as freshman Tabea Schwarz and junior Caitlin Bettenay beat senior Mikaela Nocetti and sophomore Ashtin Olin twice, 21-13.

Keeping the energy high for the Spartans, seniors Giulia Gavio and Luiza Andrade defeated sophomore Macey Hayden and senior Skyler Takeda, 21-17 and 21-12.

With a 4-0 lead, the Spartans continued momentum against the Hornets.

The fifth match ended with senior Julia Golbeck and freshman Sarah Smevog dominating freshman Kayla Subbert and junior Paige Calvin, 21-14 then 21-18.

Both Golbeck and Smevog remain undefeated at 8-0 this season.

Through all of the matches against Sac State, none of the Spartan pairs gave up more than 18 points.

The team busses to Palo Alto on Sunday to face Saint Mary’s at 1:30 p.m, followed by a 3 p.m. game against Stanford.
