After ending the great start of the season with a tough loss of 8-1 against Pacific, San Jose State baseball (3-1) will try to bounce back in a three-game series against UC Riverside.
SJSU will begin their second series of the season as the Highlanders (1-3) come to the Bay Area.
Although the Highlanders have only faced off against the University of Nebraska, they allowed the Huskers to score 47 runs in four games.
Sophomore outfielder Dylan Orick has a .353 batting average and has started in every game so far. UC Riverside has struggled to score runs and will look to Orick to be the driving force on offense.
The Spartans, who were able to rack up 20 runs in their last game with Santa Clara University, with try to replicate this performance.
SJSU has three players with batting averages over .500 and will be the offensive spark needed to win this series.
Sophomore and junior outfielders Connor Konishi and Kellen Strahm are responsible for six runs each on the season while starting every game.
On the mound, freshman right-hander Jonathan Clark was impressive in his only appearance on the season. Pitching 4.1 innings, he was able to strike out six batters and held Pacific to a .071 batting average.
Look out for Clark to make an appearance in this series to continue his dominant pitching outing.
Freshman Ben Polack will make his second collegiate start on Friday, with seniors Andrew Mitchel throwing Saturday and Tevin Cadola going Sunday.
First pitch is at 6 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
