Unstoppable 3-point shooting leads to first road win against Rams

San Jose State women’s basketball (3-21, 2-11 MW) took advantage of a struggling Colorado State team as it clinched its first conference road win of the year at the Moby Arena, 78-70.

The Spartans hit 14 3’s and shot 41.9 percent from the field for their third overall victory.

They took early control of the game as they had the early 22-18 lead over the Rams (8-16, 2-11 MW) by the end of the first quarter.

By the end of the first half, SJSU had a nine-point lead and went off for 43.8 percent shooting with 8 3-pointers.

During the third quarter, the Spartans had its largest led of the game at 47-34. This quarter was pivotal for SJSU as the team gained momentum that would make it impossible for CSU to catch up.

The team was compelled as it fought for its first road win of the year. The offense was undeniably in sync and could not be stopped by the fading CSU.

Sophomore point guard Danae Marquez was red-hot on the court as she led the Spartan offense with a total of 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Marquez was unstoppable from behind the arc as she totaled up a career-high 5 3-pointers for the night.

Her performance ties her for 20th on the program’s career-3 pointers list.

Sophomore and junior guards Megan Anderson and Analyss Benally also added to the team’s success with consistent performances that were critical for the SJSU offense.

Anderson tallied up 13 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist. Benally followed up with 12 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

Overall, the Spartans dominated over the Rams with a perfect team effort that resulted in their first road win.

They look to carry their momentum as they host Air Force on Saturday at the Event Center.
