In a rare contest without starting point guard Danae Marquez, San Jose State women’s basketball (1-14, 0-4 MW) was held to 29 percent shooting and dropped its 11th consecutive game against Utah State (9-7, 4-1 MW), 82-49.
The Spartans allowed the Aggies to shoot 47 percent from the floor and 52 percent from beyond the arc.
Sophomore guard Megan Anderson got the Spartans on the board first with a 3-pointer at 7:56. The team went on to hit five 3’s in the first 10 minutes.
SJSU’s lead reached to as high as 6, but the Aggies cut it down to 1 to end the first quarter.
USU continued to roll and outscored SJSU 29-8 in the second and took a 20-point lead into halftime.
Junior guard/forward Shannon Dufficy scored 18 of her 24 points in the first half. She also finished 4-4 from the 3-point line and tallied a team-high 10 rebounds.
Utah State’s momentum was kept in tact as it extended its lead to 29 after 30 minutes of play. It went on to pick up its fourth conference win by 33 points.
Anderson was the only Spartan to hit double figures in scoring with 11 points. She also had a team-high 4 steals.
Sophomore forward Cydni Lewis followed with 8 points as senior Andrea Kohlhaas topped with 5 rebounds. Junior center Alexis Harris recorded a team-high 3 blocks.
The Spartans look to end their losing skid as they return to the Event Center on Saturday to take on UNLV.
