San Jose State women’s basketball came out swinging against Colorado on Thursday, but came up just short to drop to 1-6. The Spartans fell 76-64 to the Buffaloes, who move on to 7-1 on the season.
The Spartans put the Buffaloes on upset watch in the first half. With seven 3-pointers in the first two quarters, they took advantage of poor shooting from Colorado.
However, the Buffaloes were able to drive with ease and scored 12 points in the paint in the first half. They went to the locker room with a 35-32 lead over the Spartans.
In the second half, Colorado was able to seperate. An 11-0 run in the third quarter all but cemented the win for the Buffaloes and they pulled off the victory 76-64.
Sophomore forward Cydni Lewis was on fire for SJSU in an incredibly efficient performance. She had 18 points while shooting 60 percent from the field, including a 4-5 performance from three.
Freshman guard Raziya Potter followed with an impressive game. A couple of early fouls severely limited her playtime, but she shined in her 19 minutes.
She shot 50 percent and was 3-4 from beyond the arc for a solid 12-point performance. She also had 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Spartans will move onto Lincoln, Nebraska to take on another big-time program. They will play the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday.
