After coming to a scoreless draw on Friday, the Spartans and the Fresno State will face off yet again Tuesday night in the MWC women’s soccer championship quarterfinals.
The night game helped San Jose State (7-6-5, 6-2-3 MW) clinch fourth in the Mountain West, awarding Bulldogs (6-9-4, 5-3-3 MW) fifth.
The winner of Tuesday’s match up will go on to play Boise State.
Friday’s shutout earned the Spartans’ defense its eighth shutout of the season which broke a Mountain West record. Simultaneously, the scoreless game gave Paige Simoneau her 10th shutout of the regular season.
Simoneau went on to win Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week after her shutout.
Junior forward Jamilecxth Becerra continues to lead the Spartans offense with four goals and 10 points.
This tournament will be the first San Jose has ever hosted. After winning the regular season title in 2017, the Spartans earned the privilege of housing the event.
SJSU was knocked out of last season’s tournament by New Mexico in a 2-2 penalty-kick loss.
Bulldog sophomore forward Emma Chivers leads the pack with five goals and 10 points on the season. The San Jose native looks to kick the Spartans out of the tournament.
The Bulldogs and the Spartans have a long history of rivalry within the conference.
The game will kick off at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
