San Jose State women’s soccer (7-6-5) travelled to the Central Valley Friday where they played Fresno State (6-9-4) in a match that ended in a 0-0 overtime draw.
This was the last game of the regular season for SJSU. The Spartans currently sit in fourth place with 20 points with a record of 6-2-3 in the Mountain West Conference standings.
The match in Fresno was a very physical one from both programs, and the referees allowed a lot of contact. Despite the lack of calls, neither team was able to capitalize with a goal during the entire 110 minutes played.
By the end of the second overtime, the Spartans had rattled off 25 shots at FSU senior goalkeeper Nicole Theroux, with 11 of those being shots on goal.
The Bulldogs, on the other hand, only put up four total shots and only one was a shot on SJSU senior goalkeeper Paige Simoneau.
Spartan freshman defender Haleigh Wynne had a phenomenal performance as she put up four shots, with two of those being on goal in the grueling 94 minutes she played.
SJSU junior forward Jamilecxth Becerra was also spectacular as she too had four shots with two of those being on goal in the exhausting 99 minutes she spent on the pitch.
The Spartans undoubtedly feel at least slightly dismayed by the scoreless outcome in comparison to their overall dominance displayed in the match, and rightfully so.
As the team wraps up the regular season and looks ahead to the MW Championship, SJSU will want to see more shots end up in the back of the net.
If it continues to put up the sensational numbers it did this evening and throughout the season, then its wishes will soon be reality.
The Spartans will face off against the Bulldogs in the quarterfinals of the MW Championship on Tuesday.
